How FMProC Prep is made
FMProC Prep is an independent study project for people preparing for the Family Medicine Professional Choices assessment. The code is MIT licensed. The question bank is free to use and may not be republished.
Who runs FMProC Prep

Mehrdad Anvar, MD, LMCC
Physician and health data systems developer in Vancouver, BC.
I am an international medical graduate. Alongside clinical work, I build health data systems and have published peer-reviewed research on trauma outcomes and hospital quality. I started FMProC Prep because well-explained, affordable practice material was hard to find.
I review every question report myself.
mdanvar.caOriginal items, drafted with AI and reviewed
Every scenario is written for this project. An item starts from a vetted scenario brief and is drafted with a large language model. A separate review pass then checks realism, option quality, how the correct answers are distributed, and the rationale behind each option. Nothing is published until that pass is complete.
The answer key is this project's reviewed key. It is not an official FMProC key, and the review pass is not the real FMProC panel.
Use the rationales as a study aid. If one looks wrong, report it. Reports are how the bank gets better.
What the four attributes mean here
FMProC assesses four attributes. They describe what the exam measures, not the whole of clinical practice:
Canadian residency programs also use broader competency frameworks, such as the Royal College's CanMEDS roles: Medical Expert, Communicator, Collaborator, Leader, Health Advocate, Scholar, and Professional. The frameworks overlap, but the four FMProC attributes are not a renamed CanMEDS list.
How the public samples work
Twenty items are public: five per attribute and a mix of rating and ranking. They require no account and include the answer key and a rationale for every option. The other 150 require a free account so the bank is not copied wholesale. No content requires a payment.
What this project is not
- Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the University of Calgary, the FMProC program, or CaRMS.
- Not a source of exam dates, fees, eligibility or scoring rules. The FMProC program and CaRMS publish those.
- Not clinical or professional advice. Do not use a practice scenario to guide care for a real patient.
- Not a predictor of your exam result.
